The classic Ka-Bar Mark 1 tactical knife with stick-tang construction. The clip-point profile head was made of high-carbon 1095 Cro-Van tool steel, characterized by high wear resistance. The blade has been hardened to a hardness of 56-58 HRC. The blade has been coated with a matte black coating with anti-glare properties.
The profiled handle of the knife was made of pressure-pressed buffalo leather discs. A steel hilt prevents the hand from slipping on the blade. At the end of the handle is placed a massive head, serving as an additional field tool. A natural leather scabbard with USN (United States Navy) embossing is included. The eyelet allows vertical mounting on a belt.
The Ka-Bar MK1 was designed in October 1942 for the United States Marine Corps (USN), displacing the bulky knives previously used. The model was delivered in early 1943 to soldiers fighting in the Pacific during World War II as a general utility and combat tool. The Ka-Bar brand name is said to be derived from the abbreviated English phrase "kill a bear"", meaning "to kill a bear", which is supposed to be indicative of the knife's capabilities. The Mark I design was upgraded to the Mark 2 form and is still used today by USMC soldiers.
